The adventure, whose title paraphrases the classic Iron Maiden song, is at the top of what is probably the most anticipated point 'n' click adventure of recent years. Being in development for some time now and after a marginally successful Kickstarter campaign, Spanish Scarecrow<\/strong> Studio<\/strong> is preparing an interesting and very ambitious title.<\/p>\n Set in a quite interesting period, filled with conspiracy theories (late 1940s), 3 Minutes to Midnight<\/strong> promises the biggest storyline ever written for an adventure game, with different plot developments and separate endings depending on your choices during the game. In addition, there will be two playable characters, with many puzzles having more than one solution, creating further incentive for the player not to quit the game after completing it, but to start again trying another path.<\/p>\n Combined with its beautiful artwork, all this sounds great and we hope that the promises will be fulfilled to the maximum. When this will happen is unknown, as there is currently no specific release date. The original Kickstarter campaign estimate of a June 2020 release was obviously not met, contemplating the complexity of the project, and based on the sparse frequency of updates from the developers, perhaps the 2021 date that appears wide open on the Steam page might not be all that realistic.<\/p>\n ROSEWATER<\/strong><\/a> (2022) – Grunidslav Games\/Application System Heidelberg<\/em><\/p>\n Lately, in the way it supports classic adventures, the Application<\/strong> System<\/strong> Heidelberg<\/strong> publishing company reminds a bit of good old Daedalic Entertainment, being of German origin as well. There are many quality adventures that bear its signature as a publisher, such as Unforeseen Incidents<\/a>, Nelly Cootalot<\/a>, Lamplight City<\/a> and Mutropolis<\/a>, and then some.<\/p>\n The some can be found in the western Rosewater, which comes from the hands of Lamplight City creator Grunidslav Games. In a 19th<\/sup> century version of Lamplight City, journalist Harley Leger arrives in Rosewater City in pursuit of the new of the century, which arises after a routine story she's assigned to cover. A news story that involves prominent figures of the day, but also plenty of scoundrels...<\/p>\n Also in this game, our choices will have an impact on the plot, but also on our relationship with our partners. Notably, Rosewater will feature an inventory system (something that was missing in Lamplight City), and there will be random encounters (!), the frequency and type of which will depend on our previous decisions.<\/p>\n Up until a few weeks ago, the game was scheduled to be released by the end of the year, but it looks like it's going to end up in early 2022. However, you can still try out the demo<\/strong> available on the Steam page, though in all likelihood, it'll be far from the finished product.<\/p>\n UNIVERSE<\/strong> 25<\/strong><\/a> (20\/09\/2021) \u2013 The<\/em> Northern<\/em> Bureau<\/em><\/p>\n This is a one-man project, by Mr. Martyn<\/strong> Norman<\/strong>, which has suffered a few delays so far, with the latest one calling for a final release on September 20, 2021.<\/p>\n According to the game, it's 2035, in a dystopian society (as usual) ruled by an authoritarian regime, with protagonist John Smith working as a licensing clerk. During a routine audit, he finds that something rotten is creeping into the inner workings of the regime, as he discovers that all sorts of strange\/illegal experiments are being conducted. His ally in trying to solve the case is the Loophole device, which allows him to teleport to different locations and even alternate universes.<\/p>\n The Universe<\/strong> 25<\/strong> looks to be quite a grandiose project, being an one-man work, as it will feature over a thousand lines of dialogue and more than thirty locations. It remains to be seen if they will come to fruition less than a month from now.<\/p>\n LONE McLONEGAR<\/strong><\/a> (04\/11\/2021) \u2013 <\/strong>Sonomio Games\/Flynn\u2019s Arcade<\/em><\/p>\n We move on to another \"western\" game, only unlike Rosewater, Lone McLonegar<\/strong> by Sonomio Games <\/strong>chooses the fully humorous approach of the era.<\/p>\n The hero is a bearded outlaw, who has been out of shape lately and is very low on the list of the most wanted outlaws. On the contrary, his arch enemy, the Bragg Badass<\/strong>, touts himself as the first and best (or worst, however you take it) and that's something he's unable to tolerate.<\/p>\n So he makes his life's goal to rob the safest bank in the Wild West, which is guaranteed to put him at the top of the list. The highest honor for an outlaw!<\/p>\n Lone McLonegar seems to tick all the right boxes, being a pure point 'n' click adventure, full of humour, a unique graphic style and lots of surprises. November isn't far away, so expect another quality adventure from the Iberian Peninsula.<\/p>\n TIDESHELL<\/strong> KEEPER<\/strong><\/a> (Q1 2022) – Tideshell<\/em> Studio<\/em><\/p>\n Another interesting adventure that's going to show up in the coming months, from Copenhagen this time. Tideshell<\/strong> Keeper<\/strong> tells the story of young Noon<\/strong>,<\/strong> who has been listening to her elderly grandmother talk incessantly for some years about the coming of a huge tidal wave that will destroy everything in its path.<\/p>\n In an attempt to avoid her \"whining\", Noon takes her personal submarine (!) and sets sail offshore to go fishing, but is unfortunately it gets stuck underneath a drifting city. There she tries to return home and after contacting with the townspeople, she slowly realizes that Grandma's words were not exactly delirium as she thought.<\/p>\n Visually, Tideshell Keeper looks great, with the distinctive design style of the characters easily winning the day. According to information that has been made public, the game does not spoil the tried and tested materials of the classic point 'n' click recipe, which will however include puzzles based on how to learn a language in real life. After all, Tideshell Keeper incorporates a dialect of its own, called Drift<\/strong>, which we have to learn - exactly how it will be integrated into the core of the game is something we'll learn upon release.<\/p>\n This is expected in the first quarter of 2022, with no final date set, so the chances of a delay are very real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n CROWNS AND PAWNS: KINGDOM OF DECEIT<\/strong><\/a> (2022) \u2013 Tag of Joy\/Head Up<\/em><\/p>\n We now move on to even more classic forms, with Lithuanian development team Tag Of Joy presenting their first adventure game, Crowns<\/strong> and<\/strong> Pawns<\/strong><\/strong>: <\/strong>Kingdom<\/strong> of<\/strong> Deceit<\/strong>. A game that seems obviously influenced by both Broken Sword and Animation Arts' Secret Files series, especially from the first impressions created by the visuals.<\/p>\n After all, the game's premise deals with non-crowned kings, an American protagonist with Lithuanian roots who suddenly inherits a house there from her grandfather and is hounded by various former KGB agents to prevent her from accepting the inheritance. Ordinary, everyday stuff.<\/p>\n On the other hand, its puzzles will contain a bit of everything: inventory-based, dialogue-based and even mini-games will be included, although the latter always sounds a bit risky.<\/p>\n Crowns and Pawns is expected within the next year, but it is not clear exactly what quarter it will be ready. Logically, based on the current stage of development, it shouldn't be long, and you can already get a taste by playing its demo<\/strong>, which can be found on the Steam page.<\/p>\n THE<\/strong> SUNDEW<\/strong><\/a> (2021?) \u2013 2054<\/em><\/p>\n Cyberpunk never dies and Ms. Agnes<\/strong> Vuillaume<\/strong> who is the sole member of the 2054<\/strong> development \"team\" makes sure to remind us again.<\/p>\n Being several years in development, The<\/strong> Sundew<\/strong> takes us to a futuristic and dark environment of Japan in the salvageable year 2054. Our genetically \"enhanced\" protagonist is Anna Isobe, a woman who typically works as a police officer, but her cyber-plants are technologically outdated. The world now relies entirely on machines, which resolutely carry out any order without further question, and the existence of cyborgs tends to become taboo.<\/p>\n But no matter how much she is underestimated, Anna remains stubbornly loyal to her duty, which will lead her to many interesting revelations about the evolution of humanity that a machine would be unable to accept as much as she deserves.<\/p>\n The game opts for a pixel<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>art<\/strong> aesthetic to tell its story, which isn't the best we've ever seen, but it's on a very satisfying level. Beyond that, the low production values, a result of the one-(wo)man project, are also evident by the lack of voice-over, but obviously we won't spoil it there. What intrigues us and prompted us to add the game to this list is its atmosphere and mysterious premise, which we hope will be accompanied by an equally remarkable \"adventure\" gameplay.<\/p>\n The release date is set for summer 2021, but because that's almost over, it will either suddenly appear in September this year or get another delay. Its demo<\/a> remains available, however.<\/p>\n UNUSUAL<\/strong> FINDINGS<\/strong><\/a> (2021) – Epic<\/em> Llama<\/em>\/<\/em>Buka<\/em> Entertainment<\/em><\/p>\n After the sweeping success of the TV series Stranger Things, the 80's overnight became a \"cool\" era to mention in your product in every way possible. It's no surprise that a related adventure is being created that \"steps on\" and pays homage to the films that marked the decade: the Goonies, The Lost Boys, Aliens, Terminator and no end in sight.<\/p>\n The Unusual<\/strong> Findings<\/strong> \"smells\" 80s from top to bottom. On the one hand with its audiovisual section, reminiscent of a game on the legendary Amiga 500, and on the other with its premise, which involves a group of three boys who, coincidentally, are the only people in the world who realize that something supernatural is plaguing the area.<\/p>\n The promise of Epic<\/strong> team creator Llama<\/strong> for an ideal marriage of the classic point 'n' click gameplay with a special \"friendship\" system that is influenced by our choice & consequence decisions, make up a game that may become the surprise of the year for the genre. Of course, if it manages to be released in 2021.<\/p>\n The over-thirties will hardly leave it off their wishlist, unless they belong to those who watch an adventure game playing and get pimples.<\/p>\n PRIM<\/strong><\/a> (Q4 2022) – Common<\/em> Colors<\/em><\/p>\n Another adventure that comes from a successful Kickstarter campaign, which was certainly helped by the wonderful artwork, deeply influenced by the works of Tim Burton.<\/p>\n Common<\/strong> Colors<\/strong>'s Prim<\/strong> is interesting beyond its black-and-white, a la Ed Wood, approach. After all, we don't recall ever before having the good fortune to be in control of... Death's teenage daughter. The damsel named Prim even has nightmares, as every night in her sleep (is Death ever asleep?) she sees a small and strangely familiar boy asking for help.<\/p>\n Prim has not yet inherited her father's cynicism, she still has feelings, so her first thought is to seek out the boy. Except there's a serious problem: the boy is alive. Consequently, she will have to leave Land of the Dead and travel to that of the Living, something Death has strictly forbidden. But what teenager listens to his parents? And as usual, disobedience in such cases has incalculable consequences<\/p>\n If anything, the game has an interesting perspective and predisposes for a high quality adventure, which on top of that will incorporate all the quality of life additions one would expect (hot-spot indicator, fast travel, hint-system etc.).<\/p>\n Admittedly, Prim still has a lot of work ahead of it to say more, as the expected release date is December 2022. Just the thing for before Christmas.<\/p>\n HONORABLE MENTIONS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n With more emphasis on the choice & consequence approach than the traditional point 'n' click, the psychological thriller Saint Kotar looks great in its bleak atmosphere.<\/p>\n Elroy<\/strong> and<\/strong> the<\/strong> Aliens<\/strong><\/a> (TBA) \u2013 Motiviti<\/em>: A humorous adventure featuring a scientist looking for his father, Elroy and the Aliens looks quite promising for a few hours of quality adventure entertainment.<\/p>\n Port<\/strong> Valley<\/strong><\/a> (2021) \u2013 WrongPixel<\/em>: A story that unfolds through the eyes of three different people and with old-school JRPG-like graphics, Port Valley could prove to be a hidden gem.<\/p>\n Nine<\/strong> Noir<\/strong> Lives<\/strong><\/a> (Q1 2022) \u2013 Silvernode<\/em> Studios<\/em>: detective-noir story starring a...cat? Take my money! Okay, Cuddles Nutterbutter isn't exactly Blacksad, but that doesn't stop him from starring in an interesting (hopefully) adventure.<\/p>\n Season<\/strong> of<\/strong> the<\/strong> Warlock<\/strong><\/a> (TBA) \u2013 enComplot<\/em>: The truth is that we were a bit scared when we first saw the characters in the game, but after a while we got over it. Mystery, wizards and black magic, two different protagonists, the carrot was delicious.<\/p>\n Near<\/strong> Mage<\/strong><\/a> (TBA) - Stuck<\/em> in<\/em> Attic<\/em>: From the creators of Gibbous<\/a>, the Romanian team's next project looks very ambitious and interesting<\/a>, but we're a long way from its release, being scheduled for February 2023.
