We wanted to tell a story about\ntransformation - not just physical, but psychological. Kyle Crane\u2019s journey mirrors the human struggle between control and chaos, humanity and instinct. As for the pandemic - it didn\u2019t have a direct influence, we\u2019re trying to forget about it as much as every other person on the planet, but on the other hand it obviously left a mark on us. It reminded us how fragile our\nsense of safety is, and how quickly an apocalypse can happen. That atmosphere of early COVID days will surely be in our consciousness forever.<\/p>\n<p class=\" translation-block\"><strong>2) At what point, during the development of Dying Light: The Beast, you decided to\npublish it as a standalone game and not as a \u201cDLC\/expansion\u201d, as you did in the\npast (the \u201cFollowing\u201d for example). Was the \u201cleak\u201d of main story\/script the reason,\nas it is rumored or it was something else? Also, does that mean that \u201cThe Beast\u201d\nis, in fact, Dying Light 3 or are there any plans for a \u201cnormal\u201d Dying Light 3? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The leak definitely played a major role - it was a difficult moment for the entire team. We had\nto stop, take a step back, and ask ourselves what the right path forward was. Eventually, we\nmade a tough but necessary decision: to cancel the initially planned DLC and start fresh. We\ntook only very few select ideas and mechanics and started the project anew - it was a new\nbeginning..<\/p>\n<p>For us, this is Dying Light 3 - the next main entry in the series, even if it doesn\u2019t carry a\nnumber in the title. It continues the story, builds on a decade of design lessons, and lays the\nfoundation for the future of the franchise. Looking back, is there something you would have done\ndifferently while creating it? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Honestly, not much - the first Dying Light had a kind of raw authenticity that still holds up\ntoday. Of course, looking back with ten years of experience, we\u2019d refine certain things -\nmaybe the pacing of the progression system, especially at the end game, maybe a few story\nbeats - but the parkour, the physicality of movement, that sense of weight and gravity? That still feels right. These systems all feed into one another to create that immersive experience players know us for. Parkour remains the backbone - grounded, physical, and responsive - letting players express themselves\nthrough movement. Combat builds on that physicality too; it\u2019s brutal and weighty, with melee weapons at its heart. And of course bloody as hell!<\/p>\n<p>The day and night cycle continues to shape the world dynamically - the same place that\nfeels relatively safe during the day becomes a nightmare once darkness falls. And, of\ncourse, Beast Mode adds an entirely new layer - it\u2019s not just a new ability, it\u2019s a shift in power\nfantasy and pace. Each of these pillars connects to the others, keeping the gameplay loop\nfresh, intense, and unmistakably Dying Light.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p class=\" translation-block\"><strong>5) What are your future plans for expanding Dying Light: The Beast? More content\nvia patches, DLC\u2019s? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our current focus was on delivering the most polished, complete experience possible at\nlaunch. Dying Light: The Beast was designed as a standalone, story-driven game, but now\nwhen the game is released we\u2019re eagerly listening to the community's voice. If players want more, and if the community has ideas worth exploring, we\u2019ll listen. Were you influenced by any of them to\ncreate the repulsive zombies that flood the world of Dying Light? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oh, absolutely. 28 Days Later is still one of my favorites - the way it redefined zombies as\nsomething terrifyingly fast and unpredictable really left a mark. Then there\u2019s Dawn of the\nDead - both Romero\u2019s original and Snyder\u2019s remake - for showing how societal collapse can\nbe just as frightening as the undead. But these are the classics, but there are many more\ninteresting takes on the format, from Shaun of the Dead to The Girl with All the Gifts. One\nthing that good zombie fiction always reminds you of is that the best zombie stories are\nrarely about monsters - they\u2019re about people.<\/p>\n<p class=\" translation-block\"><strong> 7) One of Techland\u2019s well-known and successful franchises was Call of Juarez. Are\nthere any plans to return to that, or is your focus on Dying Light series from now\non? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Call of Juarez holds a special place in our hearts - it\u2019s part of Techland\u2019s legacy, and we\u2019re\nproud that players still remember it so fondly. But right now, our focus is entirely on the Dying\nLight universe. There\u2019s so much more we want to explore in this world zombie-infested -\nthematically, narratively, and mechanically. That said, never say never. Like in this saying -\nyou want to make the god laugh\u2026 Tell him your plans. Do you have\na specific attribute that would describe all your games? <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I think the core of everything we do is player immersion. Whether it\u2019s the first-person\nperspective, the physicality of movement, or the detail in our world design, we want playersto feel like they\u2019re there. That immersion drives every creative decision we make. If there\u2019s\none word that defines Techland\u2019s games, it\u2019s \u201cbelievability\u201d - not realism for realism\u2019s sake,\nbut authenticity. Even when you\u2019re drop-kicking zombies off a rooftop, it still feels somehow\nplausible in the world we\u2019ve built.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p class=\" translation-block\"><strong> 9) Do you think that a survival horror Dying Light game, in the style of Resident\nEvil\/Silent Hill, is something that could happen in the future, or are you\n\u201ccommitted\u201d to the open-world format? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Again, never say never. The open-world format gives us space for experimentation and\nplayer expression, which fits Dying Light perfectly. But survival horror is absolutely in our\nDNA - we\u2019ve been dialing it up again in Dying Light: The Beast, and the feedback has been\ngreat. To be honest I don\u2019t feel we\u2019re that far away from Silent Hill or Resident Evil - it\u2019s just\nthat our brand of survival horror takes place in the open world and is less scripted and more\nrelying on systems. Do you think it will help developers develop games\nfaster, or will we end up in a situation where games will all look alike, limiting\ncreativity? <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>AI is a tool - and like any tool, it\u2019s only as creative as the people using it. It can definitely help\nwith optimization, testing, or even generating ideas faster, but I don\u2019t believe it can replace\nhuman storytelling or artistry. If studios rely on it too much, yes, we risk creating games that\nfeel the same. But if we use it smartly - as an assistant rather than a replacement - it could\nfree up developers to focus on what really matters: creativity, emotion, and originality.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong> 11) Poland has become a power nation in videogame development with numerous\nsuccessful studios. As someone living in this landscape how would you describe\nit? What would you attribute this success to? <\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a mix of passion, resilience, and a bit of that Polish stubbornness. We grew up with limited resources, learning to make the most of what we had, and that shaped how we create. The Polish industry is full of incredibly talented, ambitious people who dream big but aren\u2019t afraid to get their hands dirty. It\u2019s a bridge. It wraps up certain arcs, but it also opens\nnew doors. And we\u2019re already walking through some of them.
