In yesterday's State of Play by Sony, packed with new content, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse was announced. We were very surprised, as Konami's historic series had been dormant since Lords of Shadow 2. The new episode is being developed by Motion Twin (Dead Cells) and Evil Empire (The Rogue Prince of Persia), so we can say that it is in good hands.
From the gameplay footage that has been released, we can safely conclude that the game follows the post-Symphony of the Night formula of its 2D predecessors, even though it takes place a few years after Dracula's Curse (NES). Here is the relevant trailer:
