Skywind: New Detailed Update for 2026

A few days ago, Morrowind celebrated its twenty-fourth anniversary, rapidly approaching its quarter-century milestone. Given the occasion, the team behind Skywind—the long-running and ambitious project to port Morrowind to Skyrim’s newer engine—released a new update on the progress of their work.

The Elder Scrolls Renewall development team has not been a monolithic entity since the project began in 2012, but rather a relay race of talented people with a deep love for TES III. Although a decade has passed, the project is not abandonware; on the contrary, as evidenced by the latest progress update, it is moving toward completion. Nevertheless, the team does not yet wish to commit to a release date.

For example, many areas—such as 2D/3D art, interior and exterior design, dialogue and text writing, as well as voice acting (with hundreds of volunteers)—are more than 90% complete. Essentially, what remains is the quality control of the dialogues, the completion of the animations for those creatures that did not “borrow” their animations from Skyrim, and the final design of the Red Mountain area.

The work seems truly well-organized and done with the passion characteristic of the community of people who love this particular title in The Elder Scrolls series. For example, despite all the work they do, they aren’t asking for financial support but rather for volunteers who can contribute in areas where help is needed.

Personally, I found the latest update very promising, so I’ve postponed the Morrowind playthrough I’d planned for the Silver Jubilee until Skywind comes out.
