)!
The 10 levels of a Patient Gamer
Level 1 No Pre-Orders: Rank(Day 1)
- Tends to buy the game on Release day.
- Waits for Initial reviews which come out about a week before launch.
- Does not Pre-order.
Level 2 "Patient": Rank(Days 2-7)
- Tends to buy the game during it's initial week of Launch.
- Waits for some User Reviews.
Level 3 Hype is Dead: Rank(Days 8-30)
- Buys the game after the first patch or
- At least after a couple of weeks to be sure the game runs smoothly.
- Some Performance patches may be released
- Driver optimization very likely for PC game
Level 4 I Forgot I wanted It: Rank(Days 30-180)
- Waits for some initial hype to die down so they can...
- Read Reviews that took time with the game
- Possibly takes advantage of an initial sale or buying a used copy.
- Plenty of guides on performance probably available.
Level 5 Wait, They are making a sequel!?: Rank(Days 180 - 360)
- Waits for the first good Sale usually at least 30% or more off.
- Benefits from much lower levels of hype and circle jerking to get honest late reviews and feedback. (This tends to benefit both high scoring and low scoring games.)
- Possibly new hardware available that runs the game better for same price as previous gen.
- Possibly new hardware available at a lower price that runs the game equally as previous gen.
Level 6 The Steam Sale: Rank (Year 2)
- Will only purchase at 50% off or lower
- Almost guaranteed to run well on new $200 Video Cards.
- Hype is gone, but Game may be entering into a revered level, thus finding honest current opinions may be tough.
- Not a lot of current players.
Level 7 Free on Xbox Live / PSN: Rank (Year 3)
- Good chance it will be Free on Xbox Live or PSN
- Probably very cheap used copies
- Regularly sold at a full price that is 50% or more of it's release price.
- Sales tend to have it for a further 50% off or more.
Level 8 Next Generation: Rank (Year 4-6)
- Very likely that a new sub $500 PC will run the game maxed out.
- Game's regular full price is probably sub $20
- Chances of finding it on sale for $5-$10 very likely.
- Might be a new console gen and thus the old consoles are MUCH cheaper as is the library of games.
- New console gen might support the old games, adding much greater value to buying the newest console.
- Wait I already own it? When did that happen?
Level 9 Humble Bundle: Rank (Year 7-9)
- Game is in first Humble Bundle rank "Pay what you want".
- HD remaster possibly available
- Entire Trilogy of games probably available for $30 or less.
- Onboard GPU in the CPU can Max out the graphics.
- Only the oldest and lowest end potato cannot run the game.
Level 10 Wait, They announced a remake?: Rank (Year 10+)
- Everyone is hyped about the Remake, time to play the original!
- It runs maxed out on everything.
- Even the HD remaster is $5
- Game has entered the realm of Nostalgia. Finding honest reviews not blinded by nostalgia goggles will be difficult.
- Your phone can emulate it.
