Another major acquisition shakes up the gaming industry. Embracer Group, a company that has already bought a huge number of development studios over the last three years, announced today that it has agreed with Square Enix to buy Eidos, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix Montreal.
What does this mean in practice for us gamers? It means that historic franchises like Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Thief and Legacy of Kain now belong to a new owner and time will tell if Embracer will do a better job than Square Enix. What's surprising is the comparatively very low cost of the deal as these three studios and their various IPs were acquired for $300 million; an amount far less than acquisitions such as Bungie and of course Bethesda and Activision.
